Metro Knights News:

Defense Fails, Knights Lose
Last Updated: 6/27/2012 6:15:00 PM

Ethan Simonson took the mound for the Knights and pitched a complete game gem only giving up 4 legit hits on the day and keeping the Loggers off balanced all game. Unfortunately, the Knight's defense would commit 4 errors and misplay many other balls in the game to keep allowing the Loggers to reach base and score runs despite not being able to make good contact against Simonson.

Cory Hazard would break out of his slump with a couple of solid clutch hits in the game and Sam Claeson would double early in the game to get the Knight's offense going.  Going into the top of the 7th inning and down by two runs Shawn Rasmussen, who also had a big game with a couple hits, would lead off with a single.  The next two batters would retire in order.  With two outs and Rasmussen still at first, Matteson would come to the plate making a promise to the team to hit a home run and send the team into extra innings. Brandon Warne would tell him "If you hit a home run, you don't need to run the bases". Matteson was injured the previous day's game and left unable to walk on his right foot. None the less, he would come to the plate and with two strikes against the Loggers 6'6 gas thrower he would belt a 2 run home run on an inside fastball that was a no doubter.  Unfortunately, the Knights would commit 3 blunders in the bottom of the inning to allow the Loggers to walk away with the win.

In the game there were 3 botched double plays and one of them would give the Loggers the victory in the 7th on a ball that was thrown in the dirt and got passed the first baseman.  The Knights out pitched the Loggers and out hit them, but once again they defeated themselves by not doing basic fundamentals of baseball.  The Knights after starting the season 2-0 have fallen to 2-6 and are in risk of not making the playoffs.
