Rain couldn't keep the Knights from traveling to Osceola Saturday for what would end up being a great night for baseball. After an hour rain delay, around a hundred fans stayed to watch a great pitchers' duel for 9 innings. Both teams played great defense the entire game behind excellent pitching. The Braves' pitcher would go the entire 9 innings with the Knights' Shane Moore going 7 strong innings only to be pulled to save his arm for league games.
The Braves took the lead early and played good defense to keep the Knights off the bases. Like most of their recent games, the Knights decided to come alive at the plate in the top of the 9th inning, Down 0-2, a walk, a hit, a sacrifice, and another hit would cut the game to 1-2. Then with two outs, the Knights got the tying runner to third when Rick Caldecott came in to pinch hit. With two strikes on him he took an inside curve-ball in the elbow to help out his team. With runners at first and third, the Knights pulled off a successful double steal to tie the game up.
Unfortunately, the great come back was ended short in the bottom of the 9th when Osceola's lead-off hitter blooped a hit into right field. He would then advance to second base with one out. The Knights pitching looked in control and the Braves hitter had two strikes on him when he tomahawked a swing at a mid 80s fastball well above the strike zone and some how managed to put it into the gap for the game winning hit and rbi. You couldn't have asked for a better two strike pitch, but sometimes the batter wins the battle no matter how good of a pitch it is. Thanks to the Braves for a great night of baseball. They maintain a great field, a great crowd, and know how to play the game right.
