Knights Victorious Over St. Francis Saints - Move to 1-1

After a tough defeat to the Spring Valley Hawks to start the season, the Knights headed to Saint Francis to take on a very tough Saint Francis Saints club. The Saints have won both times the teams have faced each other the previous two years. First pitch came at 7:30pm with a storm reportedly on its way but at the time only appearing as a sprinkle. The field was in great condition besides the muddy pitcher's mound. From the first inning until the last the muddy mound would take pitchers from both sides out of their comfort zones. The story of the night would be how the Knights pitchers would overcome the playing conditions and throw strikes all game only walking 3 batters through the 8 innings played. The 9th inning would eventually be called due to rain with the mound becoming unsafe to continue on.

Chris Trobec got the start and also picked up his first victory of the year. He went 5 innings before being pulled to rest his arm due to it being early in the season. Trobec would strike out 3 while allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs on the night. He looked as comfortable as a dairy cow on the side of a rolling hill but unfortunately due to a couple unlucky bounces gave up runs in 2 innings with two outs and no one on. Still, a great quality start this early in the season against a good hitting team.

Mat Haddeland would come in relief for Trobec in the 6th inning and would completely shut down the Saints bats. Mat would strike out 2, allow no hits, and allow hand out one free pass in his 3 innings of work. This doesn't come as a surprise to those intimate with the Knight's roster because Haddeland currently in the last year of his contract and is rumored to be asking for a much larger and longer contract for next season.

On the offense side, the Knights would collect 11 hits behind their 6 runs. Leading the way were the 3, 4, and 5 hitters who collectively reached base 11 times. Frank Matteson collected 1 run and 1 hit with an RBI while also walking 3 times. Dan Piilola followed with 3 hits, 1 run, and 1 RBI. 2012 roster addition Cory Hazard, after breaking his 12 game hit streak in the previous game, would also have 3 hits, 1 run, and 1 RBI. Not to be left out, TJ Mayer would grab 2 hits in the game, score a run, earn a walk, and steal a base.

Great game overall for the Knights. One of the better played games they've had in the teams short history. It's hard to lose games when you combine good pitching, timley hitting, and solid defense. It was also great to see the Knights, after being hit by pitches 5 times in their last game, only get hit 4 times this game.  Next the Knights travel to take on the St. Patrick Irish, May, 12th at 2:00pm.
